MANSFIELD, Ohio — Video captured a confrontation between security officers and a civilian that ended in a gunshot.
The altercation began during a Thursday, June 9 meeting with county commissioners when Michael Skidmore attempted to photograph a county clerk’s badge, Richland Source reported. In the video, Skidmore is seen grabbing the clerk’s shoulder in an attempt to get a clear shot of the badge while a commissioner comments the touch is inappropriate and asks for security to be notified.
Two security officers responded to the call and were met with hostility. They were reportedly assaulted by Skidmore while trying to restrain him.
“I believe one of the security officers, Tim Norris, was struck in the head multiple times with a fist,” said sheriff Steve Sheldon at a press conference.
The other security officer, Chuck Kochis, was bitten on the cheek during the struggle.
The bullet fired by one of the security officers went into a wall, and no injuries resulting from the gunshot were reported.
Both officers have been treated and released from the hospital.
Skidmore was arrested and charged with felonious assault.
