FULTON, Ky. — Recently released video shows Kentucky police fatally shooting a man who used a pole with a knife attached to it to break car windows.
WDRB reports that in Jan. 2017, Chris McClure was swinging the weapon at parked cars and breaking windows. Police said McClure started to take his frustration out on the Fulton Chief’s SUV when police arrived.
Officer James Buckingham arrived at the scene and ordered commands to McClure before firing two shots at the suspect. McClure was taken to a hospital where he died.
Lawyers for McClure’s family said officers acted with unnecessary force. McClure had some mental issues and was upset because he hadn’t been able to see his children, according to attorneys.
“I think the brunt of the lawsuit really stems from the fact that after Chris is on the ground, ‘Buck’ comes up to him, and from point blank range, without any justification, no reason whatsoever, fires an execution shot,” said attorney Larry Forman.
Fulton PD and Kentucky State Police did not comment on the incident.
