CHICAGO, Ill. — Two Chicago police officers and a motorist were injured early today after a vehicle rear-ended a squad car at a West Side intersection, authorities said.

The crash occurred about 12:30 a.m. at Madison Street and Kilbourn Avenue, in the city’s West Garfield Park neighborhood, Chicago Fire Department Chief Joe Roccasalva said.

Two police officers were in a marked squad car that was rear-ended by another vehicle, Chicago Police Officer David Banks said. He did not know if the police car was en route to an emergency call at the time, or whether it had its lights and sirens activated.

The officers suffered neck and back injuries and were taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital. The man driving the other car was transported to Stroger Hospital of Cook County, authorities said.

Banks said all three victims were expected to recover from their injuries. No charges had been filed and the cause of the crash was under investigation.
