PROVO, Utah — A man accused of impersonating a police officer and forcing a woman to undress has accepted a plea deal from prosecutors.

Jose Baray, 37, pleaded guilty Tuesday in 4th District Court to aggravated assault, a third-degree felony, and two misdemeanor counts of impersonating an officer and unlawful detention.

In July, Baray stopped a woman at a Provo motel and identified himself as a police officer, according to court documents. Wearing a shirt with a Spanish Fork police patch, and carrying a gun and handcuffs, Baray told the woman to strip because he needed to look for drugs, police said.

The woman partially stripped before stopping.

Baray is scheduled to be sentenced by Judge Christine Johnson on Oct. 25.
