ATLANTA — A 44-year-old Fairburn man has been taken into the Chattahoochee Hills Police Department for questioning in the fatal shooting of a Chattahoochee Hills police officer on Monday.

According to Fox 5 Atlanta, he is Robert Cook and he was picked up near Roosevelt Highway in south Fulton County in connection with the shooting death of police Lt. Mike Vogt, 56.

A news conference at the Chattahoochee Hills Police Department is expected soon, however.

On Tuesday rewards totaling $35,000 were offered for information that would lead to the conviction of the person who fired a “high-powered” weapon, mortally wounding Lt. Mike Vogt on a secluded dirt road in south Fulton County near Hutcheson Ferry Road.

After he was ambushed, Vogt was able to drive in reverse for about 50 yards and call for help before his car stopped. Officers and deputies from Chattahoochee Hills, Union City and Palmetto, and Fulton and Coweta counties began arriving at the scene within moments. And the Georgia Bureau of Investigation began coordinating the search for a 1984 brown Chrysler LeBaron. There were reports two to three people were involved, but only one person was in custody Wednesday afternoon.
