EL PASO, Texas — Police shot a 41-year-old man Saturday while investigating a family fight in the Lower Valley.
The man was wounded by two El Paso Police officers who shot him in the stomach and a leg.
Police spokesman Darrel Petry said the officers went to a domestic disturbance about 4:10 a.m. the 300 block of Mirasol.
As the officers were investigating, a vehicle drove into the officers marked car that was parked outside of the home. The driver, a man who was not identified, was allegedly fleeing from another police car.
After crashing into the officer’s car, the driver left the vehicle and allegedly pointed a handgun at the officers.
Police said the officers fired at the man, who was involved in the family disturbance, and hit him the stomach and a thigh. The man fell and dropped his weapon.
The man was taken to a hospital. Officials said the man did not receive life-threatening injuries.
The officers, whose names were not released, were not injured.
The El Paso Police Department’s Crime Against Persons Unit, Crime Scene Unit and Shooting Review Team and the District Attorney’s Office are investigating the incident.
Police said the man would be arrested on suspicion of evading arrest in a motor vehicle and aggravated assault on a public servant and additional charges stemming from the family fight.
He will be booked into the El Paso County Jail after his medical treatment.
