DETROIT — The mayor and interim police chief of Detroit announced during a joint press conference Wednesday that they plan to reorganize the police department in order to better fight crime.
“We have to make sure all of our resources are properly utilized,” Chief Chester Logan said.
In March, 80 percent of officers will be on patrols, 15 percent will be doing investigative work, and no more than 5 percent will be doing administrative work, according to Mayor David Bing.
Crime statistics reported that 2012 was the deadliest year in Detroit in almost 20 years, according to WXYZ.
Bing told media that funds are also available now to search for a new police chief.
Former Police Chief Ralph L. Godbee Jr. resigned in October of last year after rumors had risen of an alleged affair with an officer.
