BALTIMORE — A Baltimore officer who exchanged gunfire with a suspect in Northwest Baltimore was awarded the Congressional Badge of Bravery on Tuesday by Rep. C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger.
Thomas Young and his partner encountered an armed man in the Park Heights area in November 2015. The suspect was killed by police, while Young was shot in the leg.
“Detective Young’s immediate reaction to the imminent threat quite possibly saved the life of his partner,” Ruppersberger said in a statement. “His actions demonstrated extraordinary bravery and a willingness to save the lives of others, without regard for his own personal safety. It is my deepest honor to present him with this Congressional Badge of Bravery today.”
Congressional Badges of Bravery are given every year to law enforcement officers to recognize acts of bravery.
