BOSTON — After Officer Richard Donohue was shot in a frenzied exchange of gunfire between cops and the Boston Marathon bombing suspects in 2013, it took luck, grit and 46 pints of blood to keep him alive.
Still in the midst of his recovery, the transit cop came out Saturday — the anniversary of the shooting — to thank blood donors who helped save his life.
“I’m forever grateful. My family is forever grateful. The only words I can ever say is, ‘Thank you,’” Donohue, 33, said at a Red Cross blood drive in Watertown, Mass.
He has been working with the Red Cross to encourage people to donate blood.
