DALLAS — A Dallas officer is being praised for comforting a 3-month-old baby moments after a rollover crash.
On Sunday morning, Officer Donald Boice was at the scene of a fatal crash when he heard about another major accident nearby, KDFW reports. Boice, who didn’t have to respond to the nearby crash, said he couldn’t help but go since he’s a father of three boys.
“At that point, you kind of go from cop to parent real quick,” he said.
When Boice arrived, he said witnesses of the accident already pulled out children, ages 5, 2 and 3-months-old, from a vehicle. Police said the parents of the children were traveling at a high speed when they hit an object in a construction zone, causing the vehicle to flip.

“Both parents were screaming, ‘Please don’t let my baby die. Please don’t let my babies die,’” Boice recalled.
The officer checked up on the children and shielded them from the chaos while also keeping them in the mother’s line of sight from the ambulance. Boice, with the 3-month-old in his arms, bounced and sang to the child as a way to comfort the infant.
A KDFW photographer captured the serene moment and posted it on social media, where it soon went viral. Dallas officers also shared the photos, saying that it shows the compassionate side to law enforcement that’s not often seen by the public.
“That could be my child, too,” Boice said. “And I’d want someone treating my child the same way.”
Authorities said the father fractured his arm and injured his head. The children were not hurt.
