BOSTON — A dog mauled an 11-year-old boy in Boston on Wednesday before an off-duty police officer intervened, firing his gun to stop the attack, cops said.
The child was bitten in the neck, arm and groin and he was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, according to the Boston Police Department.
Cops said the attack took place around 12:09 p.m. in the Dorchester neighborhood. It wasn’t immediately clear if the dog, identified as a pit bull, was stuck by the gunfire.
Two dogs were detained, said William Gross, the city’s police commissioner. Gross said another pit bull was being restrained during the attack.
The shooting is being investigated by the city’s firearm discharge investigative team, cops said.
