WHITE SETTLEMENT, Texas — A man was rescued from a car that was on fire after it crashed, the White Settlement Police Department announced in a news release Saturday.
Around 2:40 a.m. Saturday, officers responded to a major crash in the 1700 block of South Cherry Lane involving a vehicle that hit a pole.
The caller told police that the engine compartment of the vehicle caught fire as a result of the collision, according to the release.
Officers determined there were two people inside the vehicle when they arrived at the scene.
The driver was able to get out of the vehicle safely, but the male in the front passenger seat was unconscious, police said in the release.
Officers quickly pulled the unconscious man from the burning car until medical personnel could arrive to treat the victim.
“I want to highlight the heroic actions by the brave police officers who serve our community,” said White Settlement police chief Christopher Cook. “Had it not been for the quick and decisive actions by police, this crash could have had a very different outcome.”
Both the driver and passenger were taken to a local hospital for treatment and are in stable condition.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Officers have not ruled out the possibility that speed could have been a factor, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
Investigators believe the vehicle was driving northbound on South Cherry Lane when it drove over a curb and hit a utility pole.
The White Settlement Fire Department also responded to the scene.
