OAK CREEK, Wis. — The partner of an officer killed in the line of duty earlier this year has died from injuries sustained in an off-duty crash, TMJ4 reported.

Milwaukee Police Department Officer Jimmy Nowak was severely injured in the crash with a semi-truck on Dec. 3, according to the report. He was kept alive in an ICU until the evening of Dec. 6. He had minimal brain function and his injuries were inoperable, according to the report.

Nowak and his former partner, Officer Peter Jerving, served together for four years and were described as “best friends” by friends and family members. Jerving was shot and killed in the line of duty in February 2023 while he was pursuing a robbery suspect.

Nowak’s family told TMJ4 that his organs were donated after an honor walk through the hospital.
