HERTFORDSHIRE, England — Police released body camera footage Monday from a Sept. 26 K-9 pursuit of a suspect.
Police attempted to stop Elroy Samuel but he fled, leading police on a pursuit, The Comet reported.
Samuel crashed his car into a bystander’s Nissan and fled on foot. The driver of the Nissan was not injured.
When police lost Samuel, they called in three neighboring county’s K-9 and helicopter units. K-9 Blue immediately picked up on Samuel’s scent and is seen on video running through a wooded area and multiple streams.
Blue discovered the suspect’s jacket, which led police to Samuel nearly an hour after he fled the crash scene.
Sgt. Cray Birch told the Standard UK that the video shows how their team worked together with officers from three counties to bring “offenders to justice.”
“Our dogs and handlers are highly trained and determined, as demonstrated by Blue and his handler’s prolonged tracking,” he said. “I am very grateful for their work as they proved to be an invaluable asset at this incident.”
Samuel was charged with six driving offenses and sentenced to two years in jail. He is disqualified from driving for three years and will be required to take a new driving test when his probation is up.
