LOWELL, Mass. — Lowell police responding to a domestic dispute this morning shot and wounded a man they say was threatening someone else in the apartment with a knife, police said.
Police responded to a Moody Street apartment at 6:45 a.m. after a 911 call reporting a domestic assault in progress.
Police ordered the attacker to drop the knife, but he refused and made an “aggressive motion” towards the intended victim, according to a Lowell police statement.
“Believing that the intended victim was about to be stabbed an officer fired one round from the officer’s duty weapon, which struck the suspect,” according to Lowell police.
The male suspect was taken to Lowell General Hospital and later taken to Massachusetts General Hospital.
Lowell police are investigating.
