OREM, Utah — Orem police released dash cam footage of a dangerous situation that could have had a deadly ending, KSL reported.

Officers located a stolen vehicle on Jan. 6 that was involved in a pursuit days earlier and saw someone inside it. As officers approached the suspect, he rammed the patrol vehicle.

“It’s obvious from the video that this guy had all intentions of running,” Lt. Craig Martinez told the news site.

The video doesn’t capture officers commanding the suspect to show his hands or allow viewers to see the handgun in the suspect’s right hand, according to the department’s Facebook post.

Officers Alex Winder and Scott Spieth didn’t see the handgun until after the suspect had been subdued.

“Pretty bad situation all around, fortunately, for everyone involved it ended with the bad guy in jail and no one else hurt,” the department wrote on Facebook.

The 35-year-old suspect was identified as Shawn Canfield and was charges with possession of a stolen vehicle, evading, resisting arrest, possession of a firearm by a restricted person, possession of a stolen firearm, aggravated assault, criminal mischief, possession of meth and possession of drug paraphernalia.
