CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Police hope to have a security camera operational at Cole Park skate park today to help cut down on graffiti problems.
The skate park was tagged in six places recently with a black bingo-like marker, police said.
Commander Mark Schauer said the camera was moved to the skate park to replace another camera that had not been functioning for an unknown time. He said the latest camera runs on an air card and not Wi-Fi, which the previous camera ran on.
Chris Semtner, Parks and Recreation Department spokesman, said that camera has not operated since last year.
Officials said the latest taggings underscore the need for a working device there.
“We’ve been getting tagged a lot more lately — it happens weekly,” Semtner said of the skate park, which opened in February 2007.
Taggers also put graffiti on the gazebo at the Greenwood Pool on Greenwood Drive late Wednesday. It took the police’s graffiti truck two hours to clean it off early Thursday, Schauer said. Someone also tagged an old Whataburger store building off Saratoga Boulevard and Everhart Road within the past week, he said.
