POST, Texas — A Texas Highway Patrol trooper died Monday night in a one-vehicle crash south of Post as he was responding to an accident scene on U.S. 84.
At about 10:30 p.m. Monday night, Trooper Jonathan McDonald was driving south on U.S. 84 toward the scene of a crash when he lost control of his vehicle and struck a culvert. He died instantly and his car was engulfed in flames.
Trooper McDonald, 28, joined the DPS in January 2008 and was stationed in Post. He is survived by his wife and a six-month-old daughter.
The Texas Highway Patrol Crash Investigation Team is conducting an investigation of the wreck.
