FRESNO, Calif. — Three people were arrested this morning after a stolen car they were in crashed into a parked vehicle, ending a high-speed pursuit in northwest Fresno, police reported.

Sgt. Michael Maguire said the driver, identified as Rudy Cruz, 22, of Fresno ran from the crash and disappeared into a neighborhood, but was later found hiding in a rear bedroom of an unoccupied home. The occupant of the home was at work.

Cruz was booked into the Fresno County Jail on suspicion of possession of stolen property, evading police and trespassing.

Two passengers in the car did not run and were taken into custody without incident, Maguire said. They were identified as Susie Rios, 25, and Juan Paleo, 32, both of Fresno. They were arrested on suspicion of possessing stolen property.

Maguire said the chase started shortly after 2 a.m. at Ashlan and West avenues when officers attempted to stop the stolen car, and ended at Emerson and Hughes avenues when the driver lost control and crashed into a parked vehicle.

The California Highway Patrol’s helicopter crew and a Clovis police officer and his police dog assisted in locating Cruz after he fled from the crash, police said.
