NEW ORLEANS — New Orleans officials say a new police recruit class has begun.
A city news release says 33 recruits are beginning their training at what the city says is a new state-of-the-art facility at the University of New Orleans.
The city says recruiting classes will train at the UNO facility while the city’s current training academy undergoes two years of remodeling.
Under plans for a $2.4 million project, New Orleans will renovate the police department’s Third District station later this year. As part of the renovation, the Third District will move its operations to the current NOPD Training Academy next door. The current Third District building will become the new NOPD Training Academy once renovations are complete.
