HOUSTON — A Texas officer is being praised after video captured him dancing with a girl in a wheelchair during a party.
Last weekend, Houston Officer Sandy Fernandez was working security during a quinceañera when he noticed a young girl in a wheelchair watching people dance, CBS News reported.
“Every time she would pass the dance floor she would just laugh, she would smile at me. Every time she passed by I would just smile and wave,” Fernandez said.
Fernandez said the girl took the dance floor with her mother and danced in her chair. A few minutes later, the officer reached out to the young girl and asked her to dance with him.

“I started spinning her around and she followed me and she smiled the whole time,” Fernandez says. “She just stole my heart.”
The officer said he and the girl danced for a few songs and that she never stopped smiling. The DJ at the party took notice and captured video of the dancing duo, which went viral.
Afterwards, Fernandez said he gave the young girl a flower. The officer has been praised for his act of kindness, but Fernandez said he was inspired and impressed by the young girl.
“We were just following the music and the moment,” Fernandez said. “She was just a sweetheart. I mean, I’ve never seen someone who could be so approachable and so sweet... she had a positive vibe.”
