ATLANTA — Authorities say a Cobb County police officer fatally shot an armed man who had taken two people hostage at a convenience store.
The shooting happened early Monday after police responded to a report of an armed robbery at the Marathon convenience store in Mableton.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said in a statement that officers learned an armed gunman had taken store employees hostage. The Cobb County Police Department SWAT team began crisis negotiations. During the standoff, 18-year-old Demetrius Dorsey, of Atlanta, was shot by a SWAT officer and died at a hospital.
The two hostages were not injured.
The bureau said its investigation will be turned over to the Cobb County district attorney’s office.
