A suspect remained at large Sunday night after a Dubuque police officer suffered non-life-threatening injuries late Saturday night.
Capt. Jim Lembke said the public is not in danger, as the confrontation between the officer and the unidentified man was a “pretty isolated incident.”
According to Police Chief Mark Dalsing, an officer, whose name has not been released, responded to a disturbance at 11:10 p.m. Saturday at 32nd and Jackson streets. The officer was attempting to question a man when he took off running.
The officer caught the man, but was stabbed in the right leg, which enabled the suspect to flee from the scene.
Dalsing said the officer was taken to Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque, where he was treated and released.
Officers from the Iowa State Patrol and the Dubuque County Sheriff’s Department, including its K-9 unit, assisted in a search Saturday night and Sunday morning between 27th and 32nd streets and Elm and Pinard streets.
Lembke said the search is continuing based on what police know about the suspect. He said they are checking out any suspicious people in the area, but are not conducting a specific search.
He said Dalsing likely would release more information about the indident today.
