LAKE CITY, Fla. — A fleeing driver led Columbia County sheriff’s deputies on a high-speed chase late Saturday, crashing into three patrol cars before being arrested, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.
Darryl Robert Addy, 50, was driving in Lake City around 11:30 p.m. when he failed to stop for a police officer, the FHP reported. The officer chased Addy’s 1998 Chevrolet pickup onto Interstate 10 and then off the County Road 137 exit.
The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office became involved when the truck started heading east on U.S. 90. A sheriff’s patrol car tried to block the truck around Nogel Road, but the truck evaded being stopped, the FHP reported.
The truck then traveled on Birley Road above the speed limits of 35 and 40 mph, failing to stop for a red light, the FHP reported. When the truck approached SW Thompson Street, Addy made a wide left turn and caused a patrol car to hit the truck, according to the FHP.
Both vehicles traveled off the roadway. The truck then re-entered Thompson Street, sideswiping another patrol car, the FHP reported. Addy continued fleeing until he reached a dead end past the intersection of SW Upchurch Avenue and SW Fulton Place, according to the report.
The truck slid off the road and struck several small trees and a fence post, the FHP reported. The truck then backed into another patrol car before Addy fled on foot into the woods, according to the FHP.
Two deputies chased Addy, shocking him with a Taser in the back. After he kicked a deputy, he was shocked with the Taser again before surrendering, the FHP reported.
Addy was charged with driving under the influence, leaving the scene with property damage, driving with a suspended license, reckless driving, driving with no tag and open container.
The sheriff’s office and Lake City Police Department are filing additional charges. No one was injured as a result of the pursuit or crashes.
