Possible Heightened Terror Threat Related to Islamic Holiday Eid al-Adha

Informational Warning Only - Secure Law Enforcement Alert

A review of several documents from Islamic and Jihadi websites, and statements by al-Qaeda spokesmen published in Arabic-language newspapers, may indicate that a strike on American soil or against American interests overseas is planned to take place between now and the Eid al-Adha (Feast of the Sacrifice) in early February, according to a briefing from the Emergency Response & Research Institute.

Law enforcement should keep in mind that al Qaeda and other Islamic groups are known to time attacks with religious holidays. The Feast of the Sacrifice is an Islamic festival and major Islamic holiday. It occurs in Saudi Arabia from February 2-6 and is celebrated at various times in other Islamic countries. Depending on the country, it can go late into February. It will be celebrated in Afghanistan Feb 23-25.

Police1 notes that this is an informational warning only, but that law enforcement should be on the lookout for pre-operational planning or additional intelligence which might suggest a strike leading up to this Islamic festival.
