Throughout my career, I have always carried a simple IWB holster in my gear bag. I just got an Elite Survival Systems Belt Clip Holster, and it has become my new “go to” holster for my compact autos, including my hard-to-fit Glock 38.
Since I had a dual career as a Citizen/Soldier and a Law Enforcement Officer, I always carried a firearm everywhere I went. This was certainly easier and better prior to March 1993, when the Clinton Administration put an end to personal firearms on post.
Several deployed friends were sharing with me that coalition soldiers were always looking for “off duty” products so they were not far from a firearm. I recommend something simple that will safely hold the issued firearm or one that is similar in construction. I also recommend never, ever, being unarmed.
The Elite Belt Clip Holster is simple scabbard of sewn ballistic nylon. It is taco shaped with a metal clip that can be switched for right or left carry. The clip has a hook that keeps the holster in the pants when the gun is drawn under duress.
The nylon is stiff enough and layered enough to keep the mouth of the holster open slightly for reinsertion. It’s not like leather, but it is significantly lighter.
I prefer string side IWB, but this holster can do appendix or SOB, if necessary. It puts my gun low enough so that it conceals well but the backstrap of my gun does not bind on my hip. The gun clears quickly and silently.
