BUFFALO, N.Y. — Ohio man was arrested Monday after driving the wrong way on Interstate 90, driving into three police cars while running from officers and striking an officer, according to New York State Police.
Justin G. Traylor, 47, of Youngstown, Ohio, faces numerous charges tied to the chase.
Just before 5 p.m., troopers received a warning that a Chevrolet Malibu was being driven eastbound in the westbound lane of Interstate 90, near tolls in Lackawanna, state police said.
Troopers tried to stop the Malibu, but the driver appeared to intentionally try to drive into a patrol car, according to state police. The trooper evaded the Malibu, which the driver continued driving the wrong way on I-90, police said.
Officers later found the car at the intersection of Walden and Bailey avenues in the City of Buffalo, police said. Troopers tried to pull the car over but the driver did not comply, according to police. As troopers chased the Malibu, it was pulled into a Rite Aid, where Cheektowaga police responded to help troopers, police said.
The exits of the parking lot were blocked by cars, but the driver of the Malibu intentionally rammed two patrol cars before fleeing from the lot, police said.
Troopers chased the car into Mount Cavalry Cemetary, where the Malibu was driven into another state police car, though the trooper was able to stop the car, police said.
While refusing to get out of his car, Traylor hit a trooper in the head, though he was arrested, according to police.
Traylor has been charged with:
- Second-degree criminal mischief (two counts)
- Unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle
- Reckless endangerment
- Reckless driving
- Resisting arrest
