SUISUN CITY, Calif. — A Suisun City man was arrested Sunday after he walked into the lobby of a police station with a loaded handgun and told officers to shoot him, authorities said.
Around 10:30 a.m., Thong Yang, 29, walked into the station brandishing the weapon and told officers he wanted to be shot, police said.
A crisis communications team was called in and after about a half-hour of negotiations convinced Yang to surrender.
The 911 dispatch center adjacent to the lobby was evacuated during the incident and emergency calls were taken by the Solano County Sheriff’s Office, police said.
In connection with the incident, investigators searched a residence at The Village Apartments on the 600 block of Civic Center Blvd. in Suisun City though they didn’t say if it was Yang’s home.
Yang is also a suspect in a “shots fired” incident from Friday, police said, at the same apartment complex that apparently stemmed from an argument with a neighbor, police said. No one was hurt in that incident, and the suspect fled the area before police arrived.
Police said Yang was also arrested on suspicion of possessing of an AR-15 assault rifle, large capacity magazines and other magazines that had been modified to fit more ammunition, but it was unclear if officers seized the arsenal following Friday’s incident or on Sunday.
He was taken into custody on suspicion of possessing a loaded firearm in a public building, threatening an officer, discharging a firearm in a negligent manner, carrying a concealed firearm, possession of high capacity magazines, brandishing a firearm in the presence of a police officer and burglary.
Yang was being held at the Solano County Jail in lieu of $2 million bail, police said.
