WACO, Texas — Authorities searched on the ground and from the air Tuesday for a driver whose truck struck a McLennan County sheriff’s deputy Monday and drove away.
Deputy Tyrone Tyson Caldwell, 41, was reportedly walking with an unidentified woman when a red pickup truck travelling south hit him, sending him into the grass nearby, according to KWTX. Two witnesses heard the impact and saw the truck speed off, but were not able to get the license plate information.
The woman was uninjured. Deputy Caldwell remains in critical condition at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center.
Anyone with information is encouraged to come forward and the Sheriff’s Law Enforcement Association of McLennan County offers a $3250 reward for details leading to an arrest.
Police said they are seeking a 1997 to 2005 red extended cab Ford Ranger pickup truck with a missing driver’s side mirror and left front end and left windshield damage.
