DARWIN, Australia — Released earlier this week, Pokémon Go is a mobile game that requires players to use their smartphone’s GPS and camera to catch virtual pokémon by visiting real world landmarks.
One of these landmarks happens to be located at the Darwin Police Station in northern Australia, which prompted the Northern Territory Police, Fire and Emergency Services to post a charming message on their Facebook page directed at new players.
“For those budding Pokemon Trainers out there using Pokemon Go — whilst the Darwin Police Station may feature as a Pokestop, please be advised that you don’t actually have to step inside in order to gain the pokeballs,” the agency wrote.
The Australian police organization also cautions players to pay attention to their real-world surroundings while enjoying their gaming experience.
“It’s also a good idea to look up, away from your phone and both ways before crossing the street. That Sandshrew isn’t going anywhere fast,” they wrote. “Stay safe and catch ‘em all!”
