EDEN, Texas — Two Texas deputies who were killed in the line of duty Monday have been identified as Deputy Samuel Leonard and Sgt. Stephen Jones.

In a Facebook update on Tuesday, the Concho County Sheriff’s Office named the slain deputies and announced funeral details.

The deputies were shot while responding to a neighborhood complaint about a dog, according to KLST. That complaint led to an altercation, which resulted in their deaths. A city employee was also injured, KLST reported.

The suspect, 28-year-old Jeffrey Nicholas, has been charged with two counts of capital murder of a peace officer.
