Job Description
The Town of Adams is seeking qualified individuals to fill a Patrol Officer position within the Adams Police Department. We are seeking an energetic, positive professional who possesses a strong desire to provide quality police services to the community. This position performs general police work in the maintenance of law and order under the supervision of superior officers, rules and regulations.
Duties include the protection of life and property and the prevention and suppression of crime through the enforcement of pertinent laws and ordinances under strict confidentiality. Provides traffic enforcement, performs arrests when appropriate, patrols by foot or in a patrol car, investigates unusual conditions and crimes and provides reports orally and in writing. Must be able to operate automobiles, firearms, hand tools, and various office equipment. Frequent exposure to circumstances having the potential to endanger the public and personal safety.
Additional Information
Requirements include high school graduation or equivalent; Associate's Degree in criminal justice and a lateral transfer preferred. Must fulfill requirements of the Massachusetts Criminal Justice Training Council, be certified from the Massachusetts Municipal Police Officer Academy or ability to obtain exemption. Successful candidates will have the ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing; ability to enforce the law impartially and to make sound judgments under stressful situations; ability to deal with the general public in a diplomatic and effective manner; ability to become thoroughly familiar with pertinent laws and local ordinances. Must have the ability to pass a firearms qualification, and administer basic first aid. Process could include oral boards, medical exam, Physical Ability Test, and extensive background check.

Candidates must be in possession of a valid Class D motor vehicle operator's license and a valid License to Carry Firearms (LTC), or obtain both within a reasonable time frame.
Starting Pay Rate - $23.19 - $28.28 per hour dependent on qualifications.
Due to current contract negotiations, this pay scale could potentially increase July 1, 2023.
