Job Description

The Office of the Second Judicial District Attorney improves the quality of life of the citizens of Bernalillo County by reducing crime through thoughtful enforcement of the law and the development of a criminal justice system. The Office is an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer and is seeking applicants for a Special Agent-in-Charge position to supervise special agents and provide support to the Crime Strategies Unit (CSU). The Special Agent-in-Charge will be the lead sworn law enforcement officer of the Second Judicial District Attorney's Office. Their primary duties will include supervising sworn personnel who conduct criminal investigations that aid current prosecutions or conduct new criminal investigations at the direction of the District Attorney or their designee. The Special Agent in Charge:

• maintains mandatory training and any additional training to increase and maintain the proficiency of all employees under their service;

• ensures policies needed for law enforcement are created and updated to meet the current national and community standards for police and those who work closely with police;

• understand the court process thoroughly, and communicate and network amongst prosecutors, courts, and the many other areas of the criminal justice system to ensure that credible and reliable work is completed in a timely fashion;

• must be comfortable in criminal investigations themselves, and to direct others on how to conduct safe and thorough investigations, including interviews, warrant writing, evidence handling, and report writing;

• must coordinate and work with outside law enforcement to coordinate investigations, training, and prosecutions together;

• must stay up-to-date on and implement advanced investigative techniques;

• must stay up-to-date on and implement advanced crime intervention strategies; and

• must stay up-to-date on and support intelligence driven prosecution strategies and techniques.

Job Requirements

  • Age: n/a
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in criminology, criminal justice, police science or a related field
  • Experience: (5) years’ work experience in related field; which must include (2) years supervision/administration experience, plus New Mexico Peace Officer Certification. Certification as a law enforcement instructor within one (1) year of entry into this position
