Job Description

Position Type and Title: Civilian - Telecommunication Specialist

 

Location: Austin ISD Police Department

Job Purpose & Responsibilities:

Incumbent monitors, answers, and dispatches phone and radio communications as well as monitors cameras and alarm systems. Incumbent dispatches Police Officers and or maintenance workers as required. Incumbent relies on established procedures, work experience, and may use department and equipment manuals as required. Errors could result in police not responding to a call or dispatching personnel unnecessarily or to the incorrect location.

*The Communications Specialist must be available any day of the year, to include weekends and or holidays, and is scheduled to work 5, 8hour shifts with 2 days off at any given time during a 24 hour day. Schedules are made 2-3 months in advance, however are subject to change according to department needs.
 
Minimum Qualifications:
 
Education:
 
This position requires a High School Diploma or G.E.D. Prefer for incumbent to have TCLEOSE Police Communication Certification and TCIC/NCIC Operator Certificate, Crisis Intervention Certificate, and Texas 1013 Curse completion, but not required at the time of application or hiring.
 
Knoweledge & Skills:
 
This position requires incumbent to be able to handle multiple duties simultaneously and have the ability to respond to interruptions. Incumbent must be able to operate a wide variety of communications equipment and applications, as well as standard office equipment such as computers, calculators/adding machines, and or copiers. Strong interpersonal skills and knowledge of department policies and procedures are necessary.  Strongly prefer that incumbent pass a required typing test which requires a minimum of 35 wpm.
 
Duty Days:
 
260 days. Incumbent will work 5, 8 hour shifts. Each work week will have two days off, and will/may include weekends and or holidays and will include any of various shifts within a 24 hour day.
 
Salary:
 
CT8 $18.93 - $20.31/hr
 
Salary determination will be based on documented experience.
