Job Description

The University of Colorado Boulder Police Department (CUPD) is now encouraging applications for a Community Safety Official (Security I)! The Community Safety Officials on campus support the mission of the University and CUPD by collaborating with community partners and campus entities to address safety and security concerns.

The main function of this position is to provide operational oversight and coordination within the CSO unit and the patrol division. This position focuses on providing building integrity, access control for campus buildings, routine locking of internal and external sections of buildings, report writing and supervising Community Safety Officials that patrol buildings and campus.

This position must communicate regularly with clients, building proctors, facilities management, internal department units, and other campus partners regarding safety and security protocols for campus buildings and open spaces. Additionally, the role must maintain communication with the Police Department and Patrol Division regarding any irregular or suspicious activity.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Patrols

Locking and unlocking of building doors as required by security patrol functions of the CSO unit; this can be achieved by walking, biking, or driving. Proactively patrol the campus to identify safety and security concerns. Identify and report any safety, security, CU policy, or law violations to the appropriate party to resolve the issue in a timely manner.

Will require working various day and evening hours, weekends, and holidays as needed. These needs may be in support in changes of campus, patrol, or event activities.

Report Writing

Responsible for entering data in an accurate and appropriate manner which may drive requirements for report/narrative submission. Reports shall be written in a timely, accurate and proficient manner, to include grammar, spelling, and accuracy.

CSOs will be competent in areas of CU policies and basic CRS (Colorado Revised Statutes), and proficient in database systems to achieve accurate report narrative information.

_Positions within the Police Department may be required to work in other areas or for other divisions as needed, as changes in schedule and or duties may vary due to operational needs or unforeseen circumstances. _

  • A Drivers License is required for this position as they will be operating University vehicles.
  • This position will require a background investigation including completion of a personal history questionnaire, criminal background check, motor vehicle records check, an Excluded Parties List System check, polygraph, job suitability evaluation, integrity interview, credit check, fingerprinting, and a reference check.
  • This position may require irregular or extended work hours at times, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
