Job Description

The City of Cape Girardeau is seeking qualified applicants for employment in the position of Communicator (Dispatcher).

On the date of employment, applicants must: Possess a valid driver’s license; possess a High School Diploma or GED equivalent; and not have any convictions for felonies.

A communicator is responsible for receiving and dispatching calls for police and fire services, working with computers and communicating on a two-way radio. The position involves working rotating shifts.

Applicants selected to participate in the hiring process will be required to participate in a written exam and interview that is by invitation. Interested candidate will be notified prior to next exam date of the date and time. Interviews will be held later that same day.

Starting pay will be $15.39 - $16.16 per hour depending on education, training and experience. Benefit package includes health, dental, and life insurance provided, retirement pension plan provided, paid vacation leave, paid sick leave, and more. The City is currently offering an Experience based stipend, up to $6,000 paid over three years, the stipend amount is based on years of experience. The shifts will be days, evenings. Before final appointment, applicant will be required to successfully complete a background investigation, pre-employment drug screen, medical evaluation, and psychological evaluation.
