This position performs responsible protective service work involving a variety of general or support duty Police assignments; does related work as required. Much of the work is performed under emergency conditions and frequently involves considerable personal hazard. Work is performed under the regular supervision of a Police Sergeant or Corporal.
Salary and Benefits
Minimum starting salary is $37,320 annually for Police Recruit and $39,186 after training is completed. Starting salaries for Virginia certified Officers is $43,201. The City offers a generous benefits package including health insurance, life insurance, VRS retirement, paid leave and holidays. Following a conditional offer of employment, applicants must pass a physical examination and drug test. All selected candidates for the position will receive a $2,500.00 bonus after all requirements are met.

High School diploma or GED required minimum or any combination of experience working with the public and education accepted as well. Be at least 21 years of age, pass physical and psychological examinations, and a drug screening test. Possess a valid Commonwealth of Virginia driver’s license, and a Department of Criminal Justice Certification.
