Job Description

El Paso Community College (EPCC) is seeking a Peace Officer I to join our Police Department. In this position, you will provide protection and service to all students, faculty, staff and the general public at all college campuses and facilities. We’ll rely on you to:


· Provide law enforcement and maintenance by continuous patrol, surveillance and crime prevention

· Patrol college campuses and facilities and answer Central Dispatch calls to assist students, faculty, staff and the general public

· Open and secure campus facilities, set alarms and security surveillance systems, monitor campus facilities via security surveillance systems and inspect premises for indications of criminal activity

· Obtain information and documents to conduct preliminary investigations and file initial reports, witness statements, affidavits and supplemental reports

· Identify and make proper arrest(s) of offender(s) and transport prisoners to local police stations or county jail for processing and booking

· Testify in court when summoned and coordinate criminal investigations with the city, county, state and federal agencies

· Provide first aid, evacuation assistance and directions in emergency situations

· Provide escorts to students, faculty and staff to ensure personal safety

· Assist with data entry for vehicle registration and issuance of vehicle parking decals and provide courtesy services to motorists


· High school diploma or equivalent; Associate degree preferred

· Active Peace Officer License from the State of Texas: Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) or successful graduation from a TCOLE accredited academy and must have proof of successfully passed the state exam for licensure as a Peace Officer and be eligible for commission.

· Experience conducting investigations, enforcing laws and regulations and using force and arrest procedures; experience working in an academic setting preferred

· Ability to analyze complex or difficult situations quickly and objectively, and act accordingly

· Ability to work in a diverse environment and be sensitive to issues of diversity and inclusion

· Must pass a medical examination, psychological and drug screening and background investigation as required by Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) or El Paso Community College

· Must successfully pass a fingerprint check by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) and the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI)
