Job Description
The Findlay Police Department is seeking lateral transfer candidates to fill open positions. All positions are in the patrol division. Patrol officers work a four day 10 hour schedule patrolling the City of Findlay, and serving its 41,000 residents. The department is CALEA accredited and has a sworn staff size of 67 officers, plus additional support staff. Must not have reached your 39th birthday before date of hire.

Applicants must have at least a minimum of two (2) years of full time law enforcement experience, or have been laid off from such a position, and have not been out of active Ohio law enforcement for more than one year.

Applicants must include a copy of their Ohio Peace Officer Certificate with their application filing. Extra credit will be given for a 4-year or 2-year degree in criminal justice or law enforcement related field and for military service. If claiming education credit, a certified transcript must accompany the application. If claiming credit for military service, see #6 below. Applicants are also encouraged to include copies of instructor certificates, or other specialized training certificates with their application.

Deadline date for filing a Civil Service Application with the Civil Service Commission is 4:00 P.M. on January 9, 2023.

Any person who has completed service in the uniformed services, who has been honorably discharged from the uniformed services or transferred to the reserve with evidence of satisfactory service, and who is a resident of this state and any member of a reserve component of the armed forces of the United States, including the Ohio National Guard, who has completed more than one hundred eighty (180) days of active duty service may file a certificate of service or honorable discharge, a certified copy of the applicant’s DD-214 discharge form, and upon this filing, the person shall receive additional credit. A member in good standing of a reserve component of the armed forces of the United States, including the Ohio National Guard, who successfully completes the member’s initial entry-level training shall receive credit. If DD-214 discharge form or equivalent is not attached, the applicant will not be contacted to ascertain its whereabouts and additional credit will not be given.

Up to the first forty (40) applications filed correctly will be reviewed and ranked based on the applicant’s prior years of police service, military and/or national guard/reserve service, formal education, and any documented specialty assignments at their current agency. If two or more applicants receive the same ranking score, priority in the time of filing the application with the director or director’s designee shall determine the order in which their names shall be placed on the eligible list. Any tie between a veteran and a reserve component member shall be decided in favor of the veteran.

- Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent minimum.
- Experience: 2 Years police experience with Ohio Peace Officer Certification.

Must have valid Ohio Driver's License

Must have high school diploma or GED equivalent and the Ohio Peace Officer Certification.

Must have no criminal record other than minor traffic violations (No more than 4 points in the last three years)

Must be fingerprinted and pass an extensive background investigation.

Must pass a medical exam given by a designated physician and a psychological exam given by a designated psychologist certifying that the applicant meets the physical and psychological requirements necessary to perform the duties of a police officer. Must pass a drug screen as well.

Must pass driving tests and firearm tests within 6 months of appointment.

Must be or become a resident of Hancock County or its immediate adjoining counties within 6 months of hire date.

Must follow all policies and procedures of the Findlay Police Department (Available upon request)
