Job Description

Consideration for above base pay for each full year of comparable experience up to 10%. A 20 year step plan with a 2.5% annual increase each year after two (2) full years of service. Employees assigned to this position act as a liaison between the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) and County Facilities Management/Public Works Critical Facilities on building maintenance issues. They are responsible for creating and maintaining ACSO building keys except those issued and controlled by the Department of the Jail (DOJ).

Must be familiar with proper cleaning procedures and for ensuring that an adequate amount of cleaning products and restroom supplies are on hand. They also provide back-up to Property Custodians by ordering, receiving, recording, controlling, dispersing, and disposing of a wide variety of property items.

Work is performed under the general direction of the Property Supervisor. Performance is evaluated through observation, results obtained, and appropriate employee performance appraisals.

Additional Information


  • Maintain a record of all expendable inventory using appropriate computer systems and in accordance with agency policy and procedures
  • Initiate orders for expendable supplies and uniform items as necessary
  • Order expendable supplies in a timely manner to avoid shortages of needed items
  • Receive, unpack, and inspect supplies and equipment for compliance with ordering specifications and contact vendors regarding discrepancies
  • Store supplies and maintain the supply area in a neat and organized manner
  • Ensure that supplies are delivered to or picked up by the appropriate employee and/or Division/Bureau
  • Properly monitor usage levels of supplies and equipment to avoid over or under stocking
  • Ensure that the interiors of the ACSO buildings are clean and well maintained, and proper cleaning procedures are used
  • Order and stock cleaning and restroom supplies
  • Act as a liaison between the Sheriff’s Office and Facilities Management on building maintenance issues
  • Responsible for arranging and setting up ACSO areas for special events, including working with DOJ staff and inmate labor crews
  • Assist other Property Bureau members as needed

  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Knowledge and ability to make minor repairs, hang pictures, and other miscellaneous types of building and equipment maintenance


  • Work conditions vary widely from normal office environment to warehousing sites, including both inside and outside tasks in various weather conditions. Will be required to work at any/all ACSO facilities, including the Department of the Jail. May be required to travel to off-site locations
  • Normal working hours, with possibility of required overtime work. Possible exposure to dust, dirt, and chemicals. Requires a large amount of physical labor


  • Knowledge of general office practices and procedures
  • Knowledge of property procedures for handling ACSO property
  • Knowledge of storeroom and inventory methods and procedures
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, local laws and ordinances pertaining to the issuance, control, and disposal of government property
  • Knowledge of applicable agency directives, procedures, and rules concerning property control and distribution
  • Knowledge of the layout of ACSO’s facilities, including off-site locations
  • Skilled in operating computers and other types of office equipment
  • Skilled in using computers for word processing, accounting, and data entry purposes
  • Skilled in the use of power tools, lawn equipment, shredders, and hand tools
  • General maintenance skills
  • Ability to maintain supplies and equipment inventories
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and carry them through to completion
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and display discretion when appropriate
  • Ability to establish and maintain a good working relationship with ACSO personnel, other agencies, and the general public

Job Requirements

  • Age: Must be 18 years of age
  • Education: High school diploma/GED
  • Experience: One (1) or more years in general maintenance preferred


  • Good working knowledge of computers
  • Experience in inventory control, warehousing, or purchasing preferred
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities


  • Current, valid Florida driver license
  • Forklift Certification (class will be provided)


  • Sit/stand for moderate periods
  • Look at a computer screen for moderate periods
  • See and hear at a normal range
  • Speak, read, write, and understand English fluently
  • Lift/carry 50+ pounds
  • Push/pull moderate to heavy loads
  • Ambulate independently
  • Climb (ladder, stairs, etc.)
  • Bend, squat, stoop, and crawl
  • Manual dexterity
  • Drive a variety of motor vehicles
