Police Officer

The Jamestown (Rhode Island) Police Department is currently accepting applications for the position of Police Officer. We are accepting applications from new recruits as well as certified police officers. Officers that are RI POST certified, or certified in another state, will experience an accelerated application review process that does not include a written test or physical agility test.

The Town of Jamestown consists of three (3) islands in Rhode Island's Narragansett Bay. The main island, Conanicut Island, is the only inhabited island. The other two islands can only be reached by boat. The Town has approximately 6,000 residents with a population that drastically increases in the summer months. The Police Department consists of 14 sworn officers plus additional civilian employees. In addition to routine patrol functions, Jamestown Police officers have opportunities to participate in:

• Detective Division
• Elderly Affairs
• Dedicated Traffic Enforcement Details
• Dedicated DUI Enforcement Details
• Marine Patrol

Accrued time of 14 vacation days and five personal days per year

Salary range of $51,000 to $74,000

Minimum Requirements:

• Must be 21 years of age with a valid driver’s license
• Must be a US citizen
• Must have a High school diploma, higher degree in related field preferred
• Must have no felony or misdemeanor arrests and/or convictions
• Must have tact and ability to communicate with people and be able to take command of a wide variety of situations, some of them life-threatening
• Experienced candidates will be required to pass a background investigation, psychological exam and physical exam.
