Job Description

Police Officers with the City of Xenia patrol assigned areas in order to protect residents of the city and their property; respond to emergency calls and complaints; demonstrate initiative in monitoring traffic and enforcing laws; issue citations and make arrests of suspected criminals; investigate and gather evidence at crime scenes; provide security checks at public and private facilities; provide emergency services (e.g., first aid); perform other related duties as needed.

Additional Information

The City of Xenia is currently accepting applications for immediate openings for the position of Police Officer (Lateral Entry). Candidates must hold either a Peace Officer certificate from the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission or a comparable certificate from another state. The current contractual pay range for this position is $29.43 - $38.17, DOQ.

The Xenia Police Division Patrol Division works 12 hour shifts. The Police Division has both full time and part time specialized assignments. Full time assignments include:

  • General assignment Detective

  • Domestic Violence Detective

  • Drug Task Force Detective

  • School Resource Officer

  • K-9 Handler

Part time and on-call assignments include:

  • SWAT

  • Crisis Negotiator

  • Drone operator

  • U.S. Marshal Task Force Officer

  • Field Training Officer

  • Evidence Technician

  • Firearms/Defensive Tactics Instructor

Job Requirements

  • Age: Must be 21
  • Education: High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Experience: Must be a sworn officer (no minimum service length)

Out of state applicants will have to submit the curriculum from their state of certification so that an equivalency evaluation can be completed by the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission. Once the equivalency evaluation is complete, out of state applicants will have to attend any additional training the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission deems necessary.

Qualifications:

CITIZENSHIP: Must be a citizen of the United States.

AGE: Must be 21 years old at time of appointment.

EDUCATION: High School graduate or possess a G.E.D.

CHARACTER: Must be of good moral character with no previous felony convictions.

PHYSICAL: Must meet physical requirements.

LICENSE: Must possess a valid Ohio driver’s license and be insurable under the City’s insurance policy at time of appointment.

RESIDENCY: Must live within the following counties within six months after appointment: Greene, Warren, Clinton, Clark, Montgomery, Madison, Fayette, Champaign, Miami, Butler, Preble, and Highland.
