Patrol Deputy

Enforces the laws of the State of Colorado and Rio Blanco County. May assist other law enforcement officers with the enforcement of federal laws and local ordinances. Apprehends violators. Investigates crimes and criminal activity, including narcotics interdiction. Enforces traffic laws, prevents and represses crime, preserves public peace and provides protection of life and responds to, investigates, and coordinates events at traffic accidents, wild land and structure fires, and search and rescues while on duty or on-call. Emergency assistance is provided according to departmental policies and procedures. Prepares documentation, reports and other communications necessary for the prosecution of cases. Testifies in court, gives verbal testimony on facts of case, identifies evidence, and produces reports and other items of evidence as necessary. Performs special duties as assigned by the Sheriff, Undersheriff, or Patrol Sergeant.

Serves civil process papers to ensure that paperwork is delivered to parties involved. Conducts V.I.N. inspections for registration in Colorado. Provides traffic control during special events and funerals. Conducts thorough inspection of the issued patrol vehicle to ensure proper operation of equipment or the need for fleet maintenance. Maintains all assigned equipment, to include but not limited to assigned vehicle, weapons, work area and computers. Promotes community relations by disseminating information, conducts safety programs in the schools, conducts ranch and business checks, and other services. May represent the Sheriff's Department at various community activities or meetings. Attends training to maintain or improve knowledge and skills.

Must be 21 years of age. Must have no conviction or plea of nolo contendere to a federal or state felony charge or crime involving moral turpitude or any crimes that would affect POST certification or which would violate any other County policy.

• Experience: None. Prefer at least 3 years law enforcement

High School diploma or equivalent. 2 years of general work experience.

-Must possess the Basic Certificate from the *Colorado *_Peace Officer Standards and Training ( *_POST *). Possession of a current first aid/CPR card. Possession of an appropriate Colorado motor vehicle operator's license and must be insurable under the County's liability coverage.
