Job Description

** **O_nly Certified Police Officer applicants will be considered for the position of Police Officer****_

The Surprise Arizona Police Department allows lateral applicants to work directly with the recruiting team to select interview dates that work around the applicant's schedule. Initial interviews can be done via online meetings or in person, which is great for out of state applicants. Once the application is received and it is confirmed that the applicant meets the requirements for the position, the recruiting team will contact the applicant to schedule an initial interview. If, after the interview, the applicant is selected to continue in the process, a second interview will be scheduled with the Command Staff and the Chief of Police. If the applicant is selected to continue in the recruitment process, they will immediately begin the background process. *Candidates who do not successfully pass the initial testing phase must wait six (6) months before re-applying for this position. *

SUMMARY Performs law enforcement, crime prevention work; patrols an assigned area for the prevention of crime, the maintenance of law and order; performs investigative work including special assignments. Also performs a variety of technical law enforcement tasks.

Very Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The employee is required to maintain a level of physical fitness to meet department standards. Correct visual acuity to 20/20.

The work will occur in an office and field environment. While performing the duties and responsibilities the employee maybe exposed to loud noise, noxious odors, unsanitary conditions, chemicals, electricity, moving mechanical parts, varying weather conditions, and other related conditions and situations. Position is subject to atmospheric conditions: Fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases or poor ventilation.

This is a safety-sensitive position that requires candidates to successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen prior to start date. Candidates must successfully pass an Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training (AZPOST) Medical Exam prior to start date.

Job Requirements

  • Age: 21+
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required
  • Experience: Must be a Certified Police Officer at time of application

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE High School Diploma or GED required.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Must have at the time of hire and be able to maintain a valid Arizona driver license.

Must be a Certified Police Officer at the time of application.
