The GJPD provides a full range of high quality policing services found in few departments our size including motorcycle unit, K-9, bomb squad, crime lab, university campus policing, SWAT team, drug task force,and other collateral assignments. Police Officers work ten hour shifts in a team concept.

The salary range for a Police Officer is $29.86 - $41.81 hourly, broken into fifteen (15) steps. The hiring range ($29.86 - $32.96) represents steps 1 to 5. Each year, with the approval of City Council, employees receive an additional step increase of 2.5%. What You'll Do: Patrol assigned district(s) within City limits Respond to radio dispatch calls for service Perform preliminary investigations at scenes Prepare citations and summonses Make arrests and transport individuals Appear in court to offer testimony relative to the investigation of incidents Prepare a variety of reports and records Offer assistance to citizens
About the Area: Grand Junction, Colorado is the gateway to the mountains and canyonlands of western Colorado and eastern Utah. Centrally located between Denver, CO (250 miles east) and Salt Lake City, UT (270 miles west), Grand Junction is surrounded by 1.2 million acres of public land. Additional Qualifications / Pay Rates: Certified Officers New hires who have graduated from a Colorado Police Academy but have less than three years of experience as an Officer start at $29.86 per hour. Lateral Entry Officers Officers with a minimum of three years of experience with one department as a Police Officer start at $29.86 - $32.96 per hour. Additionally, the following hiring bonuses are offered to Lateral Entry Officers: 40 hours of paid leave banked immediately upon hire $4,000 hiring bonus upon completion of the Field Training Officer Program and with a signed two (2) year commitment to the Grand Junction Police Department Relocation expenses Out of State Lateral Officers Starting pay for Officers from out-of-state will be $29.86 per hour until Colorado POST certification is obtained. Testing Process: Oral Board Interview Physical Ability Test Suitability/Psychological Evaluation Computerized Voice Stress Analysis (CVSA) Finger Prints/Background Investigation Pre-employment drug, medical and psychological evaluation screening
