GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY:
As a certified police officer, perform law enforcement and crime prevention work including discovery, investigation, report preparation and patrol to enforce federal, state, and local laws. Oversee police program areas, which may require additional specialized training.

Hiring Process Phases: The Scappoose Police Department selection includes the following components:
- Review of completed applications (see requirements above) 2. Oral Board Interview 3. Chief's Interview 4. Successful completion of a background investigation, psychological testing and a full physical prior to receiving an official offer of employment.
Upon completion of each hiring process phase, applicants will be notified of his/her status via email.
To be considered a lateral applicate you must meet the following minimum qualifications in addition to requirements listed under Education, Certification and Experience on page 10:
· Have completed a state certified police academy
· Passed a probationary period of not less than two (2) years with a law enforcement agency as a full-time sworn officer.
· Must possess a DPPST Basic Police Certificate.
· Have been employed as a full-time sworn officer within the five (5) year period to appointment to this position.
Lateral Wages and Benefits: Below is a wage scale matrix used by the Scappoose Police Department as a guide - it does not guarantee a specific rate of pay. Factors considered in a lateral applicant's entry wage is based on time of Police experience only. "Police Experience" refers to municipal, county and state police agencies. Corrections, reserve officer, security officer, and federal officer experience does not fulfill our requirement for certified police experience needed as a lateral applicant.
Police Officers may also earn up to an additional 13% premium pay (depending on qualifications). Pay listed is for regular hours worked. Police Officers also have opportunities to work overtime assignments which can further increase pay.
Signing Bonus: A signing bonus made up of the following elements will be offered to successful lateral candidates:
Example Amount: $10,000 - $2,000 upon hire, $2,000 upon completion of probation, $3,000 upon completion of 3 full years and $3,000 upon completion of 5 full years.
Sick Leave Bank: 40 hours
Vacation Leave: 40 hours

- Experience: DPSST’s Basic Police certification at the time of hire
Must be US Citizen at time of hire.
Possess and maintain a valid Oregon license to operate a motor vehicle with acceptable driving record.
Must be able to successfully complete substance abuse test, psychological test, and medical exam. With or without reasonable accommodation.
Advanced knowledge of police practices and procedures, investigative methods and techniques, federal, state, and local laws, report writing, firearm use and safety precautions.
Previous college-level training or experience in law enforcement. Knowledge of the community and surrounding areas. Previous training related to police equipment or operations, e.g., first aid, CPR, hazardous materials, firearms training, LEDS General level certification, RegJIN, etc.
