Job Description

A career you can be proud of that is stable, in demand, and well-paying? The Wheatland Police Department is currently seeking motivated individuals looking to join our team as a Police Officer. This position will be open until filled.

Potential candidates must be willing to work 12 hour patrol shifts. Potential candidates should be at least 21 years of age, a United States Citizen, and be a high school graduate or equivalent. Candidates must possess a current driver’s license with a safe driving record, no felony convictions, and no misdemeanor Domestic Violence convictions. Candidates must be of good moral character (as determined by a thorough background investigation), be free of any physical, emotional, or mental condition which could adversely affect the performance of the duties of a police officer (as determined by a complete medical examination and comprehensive psychological test), and be able to pass a health-based physical fitness assessment. Wyoming POST certified officers preferred, but not required, as training will be provided. Candidates should expect to participate in a physical fitness test, pass a written cumulative exam, and complete a board interview. Successful candidates will be required to undergo a background examination, drug test, medical test, physical exam; he or she must be eligible to meet Wyoming POST certification requirements. Successful candidates will be required to attend the Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy’s Police Officer Basic in Douglas, WY within one year of start date (unless already a Wyoming POST certified Peace Officer, entering as a lateral transfer, or are able to successfully challenge from another state).

Pay range for a police officer is $3680.00-$4,433.00/month DOE. Benefits include full Wyoming retirement after 20 years, medical, dental, vision, paid holidays, sick time, and vacation.

We are also located along I-25. This allows a person to easily travel to larger cities located south and north of us. Cheyenne the capital city of Wyoming is a short 50 minute drive south of us, and Denver, Colorado is 2.5 hours south of Wheatland.

Job Requirements

We are looking for dedicated police officers to perform various law enforcement duties and maintain public safety. The police officer's responsibilities will include patrolling areas, responding to calls, investigating diverse incidents, arresting suspects, and preparing incident reports.

To be successful as a police officer, you should be in good physical condition to pursue suspects and remain level-headed in stressful and dangerous situations. An outstanding Police Officer should be intuitive and able to exercise sound judgment.

  • Enforcing local, state, and federal laws.
  • Patrolling assigned geographic zones and responding to calls.
  • Apprehending and transporting suspects.
  • Interviewing victims, witnesses, and suspects.
  • Gathering and logging evidence.
  • Writing citations, executing warrants, and testifying in court.
  • Preparing and providing accurate reports documenting incidents and activities.
  • Responding to emergency and non-emergency situations.
  • Preventing and investigating illegal activities.
