Job Description

Police officer duties involve responsibility for the protection of life and property, prevention of crime, apprehension of criminals and the enforcement of laws and ordinances. Duties normally consist of patrol, investigations, and traffic code enforcement. Officers may also be assigned duties as training officers, evidence technicians, field training officers, firearms instructors, hostage negotiators, special response team members, and other specialized assignments. Officers must be able to perform the essential job functions unassisted, and at a pace and level of performance consistent with the actual job requirements.

The Worland Police Department protects the citizens of Worland 24/7 with a minimun staffing of 2-3 officers per shift. Officers work one week of three 12-hour shifts and one week of four 12-hour shifts. Officers rotate to a different shift every 2 months.

The City of Worland is an agricultural community in the foothills of the Big Horn Mountains and located in the broader area described as the Big Horn Basin. Worland is a great place to raise a family and enjoy outdoor activities such as fishing, hiking, hunting, among other activities. You can drive 90 miles to Cody, WY and about an hour from there is the East Gate of Yellowstone National Park.

Due to the location within the Big Horn Basin, The City of Worland is protected from severe weather by the surrounding mountains from nearly every direction. Worland is the least windy municipality located in the State of Wyoming.

The City of Worland pays the full amount of group health medical, vision and dental insurance for permanent, full time employees and their dependents.

Deferred compensation plans are also available through the City and State of Wyoming should you elect to invest in this retirement plan.

After 6 months of service employees will earn and be eligible for 40 hours of sick leave. After one year of continuous service, the employee will earn and be eligible for an additional 40 hours of sick leave and 40 hours of vacation leave. Both sick time and vacation time will be accrued on a graduated basis after one year of continuous service.

Uniforms are provided with an allowance and the department has a take-home vehicle policy.

Job Requirements

  • Age: 21 or older
  • Education: High School Diploma or Equivalency
  • Experience: None

Candidates for the Worland Police Department must:

-Be a United States citizen

-Possess a valid driver’s license (And meet insurance coverage standards)

-Be of good moral character as determined by a background investigation

-Be free of any physical, emotional, or mental conditions which would adversely affect the performance of the duties of a police officer as determined by a complete medical examination and psychological testing.

-Pass a health based physical fitness assessment
