The Yakima Police Department uses Public Safety Testing to assist with administering the first step of the hiring process, which is the written and physical exams. To apply, create an account via * *and select a date/location to complete these exams.

*10 hour 40 minute shifts *for patrol officers

*4 and 5 day weekends *(officers work 5 days on/4 days off/5 on/4 off/5 on/5 off)

Take home cars provided (can be used on and off-duty)

Job Requirements

  • Age: 21
  • Education: High School Diploma (or equivalent)
  • Experience: For Entry Level - No experience needed; Lateral-Officers require 2 years LE exerience

-Must be 21 years of age or older

-A US Citizen or lawful permanent resident

*High school graduate or equivalent *

-Have good command of English language, both written and verbal

-Must be in good physical condition, good moral character and capable of performing the full range of required duties

-Must be able to meet and maintain department standards for firearm qualification and all State and Federal laws to possess and carry a firearm


-Must be currently certified as a law enforcement officer in their home state

-Have at least two years of continuous law enforcement service within the last three years

-Out-of-state laterals must successfully complete the Equivalency Exam within one year of employment
