Photo of the Week: Protecting our protectors

Jessamine County Sheriff's K-9, Macho, now has a protective vest courtesy of a kind-hearted resident

This week's photo was submitted by the Jessamine County (Kentucky) Sheriff’s Office.

After the tragic shooting on June 30 in Floyd County, Kentucky, in which two officers and a K-9 were killed at the scene and a third officer died of his wounds in the hospital, a Jessamine County resident reached out to the Jessamine County Sheriff’s Office to purchase the agency’s K-9, Macho, a bullet-resistant vest.

“A K9 vest usually costs $800 and up,” the Sheriff’s Office wrote on its Facebook page. “This kind-hearted woman donated the funds for Macho and wanted to make sure he had the best! Although she wanted to remain anonymous, she knows who she is, and we thank her for her kindness and generosity!”
